                                   Information

Take the ACT as many times as possible. Your best score counts.

1. Practice tests are available online (google-practice act tests).  actstudent.org also has practice tests.

2. Usually a score of 25 or better can mean some scholarship money. 

3. ACT software can be checked out through the counselor’s office, or you can purchase it at Staple’s, Wal-Mart, etc.

4. ACT workshops are very helpful!!!

5. ACT is scored on a scale of 1-36. Scores above a 30 usually mean some serious money.

7. Get plenty of rest before taking the test. Eat a good breakfast. Manage your time wisely in the test. Know when you have 5 minutes left and at least guess if you have a lot left. Answer every question. Immediately following the test, write down everything you didn’t know, and ask a teacher for additional help.

    

    

   Log on to www.actstudent.org to register.   If you register online, you must pay with a credit card. 

    

   Payment and/or the ACT packets are not returned to the school for mailing.  You put the address label on the package and mail it yourself. 

    

   ACT is a timed test that covers four categories:  English, Math, Reading, and Science

    

   You may register to take it anywhere it is offered (OBU, Tecumseh High School, etc.) 

   There is always a much smaller crowd at Tecumseh High School.  You may consider taking it there instead of OBU where there could be 200 plus kids in one big auditorium at the same time.  Tecumseh is usually in a classroom setting. 

    

   Practice tests are available online.  It is also a good idea to go to a workshop or enroll in our ACT prep class here at Dale.  Scores typically go up after taking this class or attending a workshop.    ACT practice software is also available at Staples or other office supply stores.  An investment of $20 for the software will pay off in the end if you are able to raise your scores. 

    

   As a general rule, a composite score of 25 or better will put you in a position to get an academic scholarship.  This varies (of course) with different universities.   Many of your smaller universities will kick in some academic money for scores 25 and above.  Scores of 30 and above can easily mean several hundred dollars in scholarship money.  Your best score is the one that matters.  So, if you take it 10 times and improve your score each time, the top score is the one that is actually recorded on your university application.
